Healthcare Reform? Try Anarchy.

Why anarchy?

Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that there are too many forces invested in preserving the status quo to make any "reform" meaningful.

Besides, the word "reform" has this watered down connotation for me--the sort of thing that comes out of over-analysis, committee-think, and trying to satisfy the loudest agendas in the room.   It's a sure way to produce crap.

Preserving the status quo must be producing some good results, right?  Sure.  Here's how we benefit:
  • People die more because they have things done to them that they don't need.
  • The quality of care you get depends on your race and on your geography.
  • You get to pay over 1/3 more in healthcare costs so that you can keep the ever-so-important insurance lobby happy.
  • The economy benefits beyond the insurance industry, too.  We've got a great legal cash cow.
  • Employers get to have the honor of paying for your care.
  • You get to choose specialists even when you don't need one...and that specialist can send you to a whole host of others.
  • Hospitals get to play part in local arms races to build the most expensive facilities to keep people racking up charges.
This list is just too long to post...but I guarantee you, the content of this blog will complete the picture.

You see, the healthier we keep people, the rest of the industry stands to lose a great deal of money.

What great fucking system.
